Dress Code:
Dancewear is designed to give freedom in movement with a streamlined look in order for the teacher to see the body placement of the dancer. For these reasons, simple dancewear worn with tights is preferred.
For modesty sake, tights MUST be worn (without underwear~~the tights are made to take the place of underwear) and also to keep the muscles warm.Dancewear is to be worn as a bathing suit is.If your child doesn’t like tights, consider a unitard, hottard, or biketard that covers the legs.
For safety reasons, especially in acrobatics, t-shirts and loose clothing cannot be worn over the dance attire during class.
Girls ages 3-6:
You may choose any type of leotard, but please keep it simple.Long skirts or costumes inhibit the dancer and distract the other students.
Girls ages 7 and up:
Solid colored leotard and dance tights, preferably convertible if taking acrobatics
Boys of all Ages: Black sweatpants or shorts with a white t-shirt, muscle shirt, or tank top.
Shoes and Accessories:
In addition to the basic dress code, each class has it’s own shoe requirement and accessory options as follows:
Ballet:
Pink ballet shoes for all ages. Please be careful NOT to buy the satin house slippers that Danskin sells.Boys are to wear black ballet shoes.Students ages 7 and up should make sure the shoe is a split sole.Optional ballet skirt may be worn for class.
Tap:
All ages wear black tap shoes.Be sure to make sure the shoes have a thick tap.A generic tap shoe produces a generic tap sound. The thicker the tap, the deeper the sound which enables the tapper to hear the sound they are making.Consider this when purchasing.
Jazz:
Black Jazz oxford (with a split sole for ages 10 and up).Optional jazz pants can be worn if the length fits and is not too long. Ages 13 and up should have a tan jazz shoe.
Twirling Baton:
Black jazz shoes or white tennis shoes. When buying a baton, measure from the tip of your middle finger to that little bone that sticks out on top of your shoulder (the Acromion Process).Order to the shortest inch. If that measurement is 26 ½” you should order a 26 inch baton. The diameter is the thickness of the baton shaft. The standard size thickness is the 3/8” size. The 3/8” size should be used for beginning twirlers. The “Starline”brand of batons sells a baton with a star shaped large head that will not roll as much when dropped. It also has two metal indents to show the twirler if their hand is moving from center. This is the type of baton we prefer.
Acrobatics:
Convertible, stirrup, or capri tights are needed in order to have the feet bare in this class. Snug shorts may be worn over the leotard and tights.
Hip Hop:
Tennis shoes, or dance sneakers may be worn with shorts, jazz pants, or workout pants. Form fitting tank top or t-shirt is also permitted.
Lyrical:
Ballet shoes with bare feet, Foot Undeez , Dance Paws, or a foot thong may also be worn. No lyrical sandals please.
Please be sure to label all of your child's dance clothing and shoes with their name.
