Are Parents allowed to observe class?
No they are not. No parents are allowed in the dance space unless invited in by the teacher of the class.
Here are the reasons Parent Observation is not permitted:
Children act differently when their parents are not around. We need the focus on the teacher.
Younger sibblings in the classroom provide a distraction. It is also a hazard, especially during Acrobatics.
We are building confidence in the safety of the classroom. Audiences inhibit a safe comfortable environment that allows mistakes.
Students tend to over perform in a front of an audience because their adrenaline is rushing. This is especially dangerous in acrobatics where students have not mastered certain skills yet.
Young dancers, age groups 3-6, can become fearful of a room full of strangers.
As parents, how we will see their progress or just satisfy our curiosity?
The following things can and will happen:
You may exit the building peak in the windows available for you to see what is going on. We have NO problem with this.
I guarantee you, that you will be invited into class. The minute Suzy gets her backbend, she is allowed to go get Mom to come and see. The minute a routine is coming together, we'll call in all of the parents of that class to watch.
When it is in a positive way, you will be allowed to come and see and cheer on your children. They also love to perform for you and they will need the practice. Now it will be done with pride instead of embarrassment.
And in the words of Forest, Forest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that".
